Book Title – Caraval
Genre – Fantasy
Author- Stephanie Garber

Overview: The book Caraval is a marvelous book written by Stephanie Garber. This book takes a deep dive into the life of two sisters living with their dad after their mother mysteriously disappears. It’s written from the point of view of the elder sister, Scarlett Dragna. Scarlett is a kind and protective person, at heart she loves adventure, but she is afraid to experience them and doesn’t want to put anyone in danger. Whereas her younger sister Donatella Dragna lives for the drama and loves to take a risk, she usually jumps without looking, which deeply scares Scarlett especially because their abusive father is a count (a noble). Since Scarlett was a child, her grandmother would tell her stories about the Magical Master legend who hosts a game called CARAVAL.

In this game there shall be a challenge or a mystery; all the ones who are invited to play must unravel the mystery of the game. Since then, every year she sent the Legend a letter asking him to come to where they stay, Trisda. One day when he finally wrote back and gave Scarlett and Tella invites to the game on the Island ISLA DE LOS SUENOS. Scarlett is afraid to go as she is getting married to a man she’s never met in a few weeks. Tella forces Scarlett to come along as she has made up her mind to go, using the help of a sailor she knows. Afraid to leave Tella and her reckless mind, she goes, but when she makes it to the boat, Tella is already on her way to the island. As Scarlett gets to the island, she goes all around along with the sailor to find Tella. Without a choice after facing some obstacles, she enters the game, hoping Tella will already be there. After some time of frantically searching, Scarlett suddenly sees Tella in a room nearby being taken. Panic fills Scarlet’s veins when she realizes that the challenge of the game is for everybody to find DONATELLA or TELLA. The rest of the story plays out as Scarlett teams up with the sailor and unravels the mystery of Caraval, and finds her sister.

I am extremely fond of this book; it had me on my toes the entire time. I would recommend this book to people who like fast-paced books and continuous plot twists. This book had me in a chokehold, I couldn’t put it down honestly. The story and characters of this book are well written, and one can read the amazing dynamic between the sisters. It is also very relatable how someone can get lost and tricked in the magical world, and one can only believe in one’s gut instincts. It creates a vivid image of a mystical world where everything might not be real. The climax of the story is also well thought out and has the same liveliness throughout the next two books.
